The “Zoe” Life of God

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly —John 10:10

What is this life that Jesus is speaking of? The life that Jesus is speaking of is often referred to as eternal life or the God-kind of life and Jesus defined the definition eternal life in John 17:3 is to know Him. To truly know Him brings about this God-kind of life for it goes beyond mere physical existence and encompasses a deep spiritual connection with God. This life is characterized by the nature and attributes of God Himself, including love, holiness, righteousness, and truth.

It is a life that transcends the limitations and temporary nature of this world. It is an abundant life, filled with the joy, peace, and fulfillment that come from being in a right relationship with God. It is a life of purpose, meaning, and spiritual growth.

This life is made possible through Jesus Christ, who offers forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God. By believing in Him, we receive the gift of eternal life and become partakers of His divine nature. This relationship with Jesus empowers us to live according to His teachings and walk in the light, experiencing the transforming power of His life within us.

Ultimately, this life is not just about the quantity of time but the quality of existence. It is a life that extends beyond the boundaries of earthly life into eternity, forever united with God in a loving and intimate relationship.

When Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly,” he meant that came to offer a higher, richer, and more fulfilling existence to humanity. It’s like upgrading from a basic phone to a smartphone with countless features and capabilities.

Imagine a person living in darkness, struggling with sin and its consequences. Jesus came to bring them out of that darkness and into the light of His life. It’s like being trapped in a dark room for years and suddenly having someone turn on the lights, revealing the beauty and possibilities around you.

Just as a seed has the potential to grow into a towering tree, Jesus offers us the opportunity to develop and reach our full potential as human beings. He provides the life-giving force that nourishes our souls, enabling us to flourish and bear fruits of love, peace, joy, and righteousness.

Think of it as receiving an eternal gift. Imagine someone working tirelessly to earn a paycheck but constantly falling short. Jesus came to offer us the gift of eternal life, not based on our efforts or merits, but through faith in Him. It’s like being heavily in debt and receiving a generous inheritance that wipes away all your financial burdens, allowing you to live in financial freedom.

In summary, Jesus did not come solely to found a church, improve humanity, or provide a mere code of conduct. His primary purpose was to offer us the God-kind of life, eternal life, filled with abundance, development, and transformation. By embracing this life through faith in Him, we can experience a profound and fulfilling existence that far exceeds anything the world has to offer.
