Believe in Your People: The Power of Support

Have you ever seen someone try something new and thought, “Well, that’s not going to work”? It’s something we all do, especially with people we know well, like our friends and family. But there’s a lesson we can learn from a story about Jesus that might change how we think. In the Bible, there’s a part where Jesus goes to his hometown, and instead of getting a big welcome, people doubt him. They’re like, “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? How is he doing all these amazing things?” (Mark 6:3, New King James Version).

It’s a bit like when a friend tells you about a big dream they have, and you’re tempted to say, “You? Really?” But here’s the thing: just because it was hard for Jesus to be taken seriously by his neighbors doesn’t mean we have to be the same with our people. Think about it. When someone plants a tiny seed in the ground, they don’t stand over it saying, “I can’t believe this little thing will turn into a beautiful flower.” No, they water it, give it sunlight, and let it do its thing. We should do the same with our friends and family. When they come to us with their dreams and ideas, we can be the water and sunlight they need. Instead of doubting them, we can say, “I believe in you. Let’s see how you can grow.”

The Bible encourages this kind of support. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11, it says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing” (NKJV). It’s like the Bible is saying, “Hey, you’re doing great at being supportive. Keep it up!” So, next time someone you know shares a big dream, try being their biggest fan. You don’t have to pretend everything is perfect, but a little belief can go a long way. Maybe they’re trying to start a business, learn a new skill, or just improve themselves somehow. Whatever it is, your support might be just what they need to make it happen. To wrap it up, let’s try to see the best in the people close to us. Let’s be the kind of friends and family who cheer each other on, not the ones who doubt. After all, if we don’t believe in our own people, who will? Let’s make our corner of the world a place where dreams get a chance to grow.
