When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was five, I had big dreams – I wanted to be Superman. My superhero costume? A fancy cape, which was really just an old towel tied around my neck, and my bravest pair of superhero undies. I was ready to save the world, one living room adventure at a time. My house turned into a wild city full of tall buildings (okay, they were just chairs and tables) and deep, dangerous seas (which was actually the carpet). I was the hero, leaping from one couch to the next, trying not to fall into the “lava” below. But the best part? Jumping off the bed trying to fly. I’d take a big run-up, leap into the air… and then land right on my bum. Every. Single. Time. You’d think I’d learn after the first crash landing, but nope, I was convinced that if I just jumped a little harder, I’d definitely start flying. Looking back, those epic fails were pretty hilarious. There I was, a tiny kid in a towel cape and undies, convinced I was seconds away from taking off, only to end up in a heap on the floor. But hey, every superhero has to start somewhere, right? And in my five-year-old mind, I was just one good jump away from saving the world.
